Assistive Technology, in this specific program, refers to the creation and application of a wide range of devices, strategies, services, and practices to improve the functional performance or life satisfaction of any individual with a hearing loss in any life arena—school, work, home, and community—regardless of age. Viewing an individual with a hearing loss in the context of family and community, the specialist in this North Carolina Assistive Technology Program (NCATP) offers:

 demonstrations of equipment
 

  loans of  devices
 

  provision of  legal, educational, and
  discipline-specific
information
 

 participation as a team member on assessment,
 planning, and implementation of assistive
 technologies
 

  training on technologies
 

  collaboration on resource management


*In addition to individuals with a hearing loss and their families, these services extend to frontline practitioners, administrators, and policymakers.
