Mr. James Scott's Success Story
My name is Mr. James Scott. Almost everyone calls me Scotty. I am 56 years old and I live in Mt. Airy, N.C. I have been a quadriplegic for over 15 years.
The assistive technology that I use includes: a page turner, which helps me read books and magazines. I turn the pages by means of a sip and puff mouth switch. There is a motorized wheelchair that I use to get about my house, sit on my front porch (most enjoyable), go on occasional outings to the mall, a ball game, to church and the March of Dimes Walk-a-thon. I also operate the chair with a sip and puff mouth switch. Since I seldom get to attend my church, I have a speaker telephone, that is tied directly into the phone line at my church (North Main Church of Christ). I am able to hear the services every Sunday.

I have been using the computer for five (5) years. I use the sip and puff mouth switch to operate my computer, EZ Keys (Words +) for access and a voice box for communications. I keep very busy with the above aids, but the projects that occupy much of my time are on the computer:
-church bulletin - done weekly
-newsletter - as needed
-others (I have software on my computer which allows me to make greeting cards, calendars, business cards, etc. Sometimes I make these for my family and friends.

Since I've been using the computer, I am able to do research on the Web, engage in interesting projects, read newspapers from across the country and around the world, maintain friendships, make new friends and even listen to radio stations that play all types of music from everywhere. That, I think, is the most important ting; the computer has brought the OUTSIDE WORLD to me! That is so very nice.
